“ First of the Year (Equinox) ” is the music track by American dubstep producer Skrilex from his third album , “ More Monsters and Sprites, ” which was released on June 7, 2011 . The composition was a great commercial success and reached high positions in the charts . The music video, which premiered on August 10, 2011, received nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards 2012 and 54th Grammy Awards , and won the Best Visual Effects category at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

The official music video produced by French company HK Corp and directed by Tony Truand Datis became available for download on August 10, 2011. from the iTunes Store , where it has a rating of "4.5" [11] . The video appeared on the Skrilllex Youtube channel on August 17, 2011 and currently has gained more than 375 million views and 2.4 million likes [12] .
Story
A man sitting on a bench in a raincoat and glasses, twirling a candy in his hands, watches children playing on the playground. A girl runs past him, and he begins to follow her along the alleys. At first she jumps fervently and carefreely, and then she goes into the basement, where the man goes down, looking at the same time. He prepares to capture the victim, pours a greenish liquid (probably colored chloroform ) on a piece of cloth and sees a girl holding a red telephone in her hands. Looks into her eyes before attempting an attack, when suddenly she shouts: “Call 911 now!” [13] (literally - “ Call 911 now! ”). After this phrase, the girl begins to gestures to control the body of the rapist, penetrating his body with black smoke. He convulsively bends from pain, takes off into the air and falls, after which he appears in a room with mutilated dolls. Out of fear, he takes his cell phone and screams the same words as the girl, but at this time she again begins to "conjure." A clawed monster appears from the fog, cracking down on the pedophile. After the "execution", the girl crosses another "victim" from her list on the wall.
Criticism
Spin magazine praised the video by writing approximately the following: “It's one thing to empathizechildren at risk or stand up for them, but in this exciting video Skrilllex went further. Much further ... "..." You should see it for yourself. " [14]
| It's one thing to empathize with at-risk kids, or to speak up for them generally, but Skrillex takes it a step further - and then further still - in this stunning new video for the track 'First of the Year (Equinox).' But in this clip, the song's melodic preamble also serves as an ominous backdrop for a creepy, would-be predator who's lurking outside a playground where young children are frolicking. The day is overcast, but something much darker is in the air, as a little girl leaves and the man stalks after her. When she unexpectedly skips off to a dark, abandoned warehouse, he continues to follow, eventually entering a room where she's standing alone, holding a telephone receiver. The keyboards suddenly fade into a glitchier groove, and then, at the 1:25 mark, well, you gotta see for yourself. |
Rewards
The video received nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards 2012 in the Best Electronic Dance Music Video category and the 54th Grammy Awards in the Best Short Music Video category. Also, the video won the " Best Visual Effects " category at the "2012 MTV Video Music Awards" (the award was received by Deka Brothers - supervisors for special effects).
