Biography

Ivan Abalyaev was born in 1901 in the village of Nutromo, Tver Province (now the Kimrsky District of the Tver Region ). He worked in Kimry , made wooden pads for shoemakers handicraftsmen. During his illness, he began carving out figures of animals and people from wood. The wooden figures turned out to be quite good, and Abalyaev began to develop his talent. In the 1920-1930s, he produced hundreds of wooden sculptures and dozens of multi-figure compositions. In the late 1930s, two of his solo exhibitions were held in Kimry. In 1938 his works were exhibited in Kalinin [3] .

After the beginning of World War II went to the front. He died in 1941 [2] .

Creativity

Ivan Abalyaev specialized in small sculpture. A number of his works are devoted to the pre-revolutionary life of the Kimry handicraftsmen and shoemakers [4] . Among the works of Abalyaev are: “Fisherman”, “Nedosugue”, “Return from the Bazaar”, “Holiday in the Handicraftsman’s Family”, “Meeting with the Fist”, “Stakhanov Brigade of Shoemakers”, “Raised Tselina”, “Seeing Learning”, “Returning from study "," Refusal of raw materials "," Theft of the leather stock from his wife "," Meeting of the poor man "," Stakhanovite family "and others [1] [2] .

The works of Ivan Abalyayev are kept in the Tver Regional Art Gallery , the Tver State United Museum and the Kimry Local History Museum [1] .

The art historian S.N. Yurenev in his book spoke of him like this: “I have difficulty in calling Abalyaev a self-taught sculptor ... Abalyaeva should be regarded as a fully developed and tirelessly progressing master, to whom we can make demands as to any professional artist ” [3] .
