" Republic " ( Far . Tjóðveldi , Cheveldi ) is a left - wing socialist political party in the Faroe Islands , advocating their full independence from Denmark and self-determination as a sovereign republic. It was formed after the results of the referendum of 1946 regarding the status of the Faeroes, in which more than half of those who voted for secession from Denmark, were ignored by the Danish authorities. Until 2007, it was called the Republican Party ( Tjóðveldldisflokkurin ). The party uses bright green colors and a multi-colored logo with the Tjóðveldi signature.

On January 19, 2008, regular Legg elections were held in the Faurers. Since 1998, the Republic has relentlessly led by former TV journalist Högni Hoydal, "the Republic", has retained 8 deputy mandates and received the status of the largest in parliament. However, after seven months of being in power, the party had to go into opposition. Following the 2011 elections, Respublika retreated to third place with 6 mandates, remaining in the opposition, but in the 2015 elections, it took second place with 7 mandates and took part in the formation of a left-wing government under the leadership of the victorious Social Democratic Party . At the same time, the “Republic” again managed to get one of two seats reserved for the Faroe Islands in the elections to the Danish Folketing , where it was previously presented from 2001 to 2011.
