Biography
Born in the family of chemist Gabibull-bek Shakhtakhtinsky . From 1946 to 1954, Shakhtakhtinskaya studied at the Azim Azimzade Azerbaijan State Art College in Baku [1] .
In 1951 she entered the graphic department of the Moscow State Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov , which she graduated in 1956 . Her thesis was the poster "40 years of October." Returning to Azerbaijan, she lived and worked in Baku [1] .
She achieved significant success by working in the portrait genre. Among the well-known works of the artist, it is possible to note portraits mainly dedicated to the jubilee dates of prominent cultural figures of Azerbaijan; portraits of Muslim Magomayev , Huseyn Javid , Arif Melikov , Fikret Amirov , Uzeyir Hajibeyov (1985) [2] , Samed Vurgun , Sattar Bahlulzade and others. 3]
In 1963 she was awarded the title of Honored Art Worker of the Azerbaijan SSR. In 1977, she was awarded the title of National Artist of Azerbaijan [2] .
In the late 1980s, she began to paint more landscapes. She depicted landscapes not only of her native land (Baku, Kedabek, Zagatala), but also of the Moscow region, the Black Sea, London, Prague, Stockholm, etc. Among her most famous paintings of this genre, it is worth noting “The Old Tree”, “In the Old Shagan”, “Shusha-Isabulag”, “In the Pir-Gulu Forest”, “On the Bank of Bilgia”, “Rocks”, “Ancient Fortress”, “Mountains near Sheki” [3] .
Elmira Shakhtakhtinskaya died on October 13, 1996 [3] in Moscow .
