History
Music site Songfacts tells:
Ross met with a production duo [with Rogers and Edwards] behind the scenes of a Chic band concert in Santa Monica, California. “Diana couldn't believe the crowd’s reaction,” Rogers told Billboard . “She said:“ I have not seen this since Jackson 5 “. She was backstage, dancing and trudging. “My children made me come and watch this show; all they talked about was Chic, Chic, Chic. This is how I want my record to sound ” [5] .
Ross, considering that on some tracks her voice was blocked by music, demanded that the producers make changes. Rogers and Edwards made minor amendments to reassure her, and told Ross that if she still didn't like the songs, she would have to translate them herself. They were shocked when Ross truly accepted their offer. With the help of Russ Terran, a producer from Motown Records, she remixed the entire album, emphasizing her vocals. Rogers was furious, but ultimately gave in on the condition that his and Edwards names would not appear in the annotations to these new remixes [5] .
After this album, Diana Ross will leave Motown and sign a 20 millionth contract with RCA, which will release 6 albums (the first, Why Do Fools Fall in Love , will be released in 1981). But in 1989, she will return and reunite with Niall Rogers to record her 17th studio album Workin 'Overtime [5] .
