Content
Club career
Vojvodina
Katai began his youth career at a club from his hometown, Vojvodina . After 6 months of rent in the team of the lower league " Palich " Aleksandar got into the main team of "Voivodina". His debut in the Serbian Super League took place on March 14, 2010 in a match against the club “ Chukarichki ”, and he scored his first goal just a week later in a match against “ Mladi Radnik ”. On June 28, 2011, he left the club and went to Greece to join the Olympiacos Club [1] .
Olympiacos
On June 24, 2011, Olympiacos signed a four-year contract with Katai [2] . In his first training sessions with Olympiacos, head coach Ernesto Valverde told Alexandar that he defended not enough and that he needed to improve his player qualities [3] . Nevertheless, Katai did not play a single match as Olympiacos player, but instead he was leased four times. The first time was given to OFI , in which he debuted on November 5, 2011 in a match against Panionios [4] . Rent at the club from Crete was unsuccessful and Olympiacos rented it back to the Vojvodina home club. While in the lease in Vojvodina, in 2012, after one game with Spartak (Subotica) , he became ill and was taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with thrombocytopenia [3] . He had to remove some blood and stay in the hospital for two weeks before he returned home [3] . During his recovery, he gained more than 20 pounds of weight and did not return to the field until the end of the year [3] . On June 8, 2013, the president of the club Ratko Butorovich died , which led to a period of instability in the club, during which Katai left the club [5] . After he was loaned to Platanias , in which he scored a total of eight goals and six assists, until his rent ended in the summer of 2014.
Crvena Star
On August 31, 2014, at the last minute before the transfer window was closed, Katai signed a one-year contract with the Red Star Club [6] .
On June 18, 2015, it was announced that Katai terminated his contract with Olympiacos and forgave the debt of 300 thousand € , which was due to Red Star from the loan agreement, and then signed a two-year contract with Red One Star [7] . In the 2015/16 season, Miodrag Bozovic was hired as a new head coach and Katai played a good game against Kairat in the first qualifying round of the Europa League , although Crvena could not qualify.
Alaves
On August 31, 2016, Katai agreed a three-year contract with the Spanish “ Alaves ” [8] .
On February 6, 2018, the Chicago Fire MLS club announced a rental of Katai for the season with the option of redemption [9] .
International Career
For the national team of Serbia, Katai made his debut on November 13, 2015 in a friendly match with the Czech team (1–4).
