Biography
For 10 years, Taymasha Gekhinskaya led the fight against the tsarist troops, commanded a detachment. In 1840 she participated in the battle on the river Valerik [2] .
According to Lieutenant General Apollo Galafeev , on February 15, 1842, near the Great Yandyrki, a battle of the tsarist detachment led by Lieutenant Colonel Sulimovskiy with the Chechen detachment under the leadership of Naib Shamil Akhverdy-Magom occurred. On the side of the Russian troops fought a detachment of the Ingush regular police. Among the captured 23 Chechens was Taymasha Gekhinsky ( Khalid Oshayev disputes the number of prisoners. According to his information, besides Taymaskh, two seriously wounded Chechens were taken prisoner [3] ). The prisoners were sent to Vladikavkaz [3] .
Emperor Nicholas I became aware of the capture of Taymashi. Since he had heard of her before, on his orders, Taymasha was brought to the palace in her national attire , in which she fought. She was given money for the journey to Petersburg and the purchase of clothing. On the way, she was accompanied by a Cossack constable Fedor Grigoriev. The contractor was ordered not to take her eyes off her, not to turn off the indicated route and, in the event of illness, escort her to the nearest hospital [3] . Taymasha was rewarded by the king as a sign of admiration for her courage and released [2] .
Chief of Staff Major General Kotzebue wrote:
| On April 15, 1842, a Chechen woman Tamaskhan Molova, captured with arms in the hands of the Yandyki tract, was summoned to the Emperor by imperial order in St. Petersburg . She was presented to the Emperor there and received a golden chain from the Empress thereafter, with the permission of His Majesty, Prince Dal Alkhasov was sent back to the Caucasus with a cornet and issued 100 rubles in silver for travel expenses [1] . |
Gekhinskaya spent three weeks in St. Petersburg. On October 4, she was taken to Stavropol , and then to the fortress of Grozny . Although the native village of Taymashi Gekhi was not far away, it was not allowed to go home. She submitted a petition in which she informed of her desire to return the gold chain presented to her by the empress and receive her value from the treasury. This desire caused a great commotion among the Caucasian authorities and reached the emperor. The emperor ordered to leave the chain at Taimaskhi and give her 200 rubles from the treasury. In the end, she was allowed to return to her native village [4] .
