History

Designed by Societa Italiana Caproni under the direction of R. Verduzio. First flew in December 1934 . It was built serially at the Kaproni plant since December 1935 . Adopted by the Italian Air Force in January 1936 . Decommissioned in 1948 .

Ca.133 was a further development of the transport aircraft model Ca.101 created in the late 20s. The new aircraft had the same layout as the previous one, but received more powerful engines and an extended fuselage. The aircraft was a three-engined strut monoplane of mixed design. Non-retractable undercarriage chassis. Created civilian and military modifications. The second option could take on board 18 paratroopers and was armed with four machine guns. Also this aircraft could be used as a bomber, however, by the mid-30s, specialized bomber aircraft began to be delivered to the armament of the Royal Air Force of Italy, so the Ca.133 was used only as a transport and mainly in the African colonies of the Kingdom of Italy. In 1938, a small number of these aircraft were sold to Austria, and after the Anschluss of Austria and the Third Reich, all of them were made available to the Luftwaffe [1] .

Combat use

Ca.133 combat debut took place during the Italian-Ethiopian war, in March 1936. In April 1939, was used during the occupation of Albania as a transport aircraft. In the same capacity he served in the Italian Air Corps during the battle for Britain . From June 1940 it was used as a night bombers in Libya and East Africa. In Libya they were withdrawn from the front in September 1940, in East Africa they were completely destroyed by March 1941 . A few got to the British [1] .
