The lives of Serbian kings and archbishops ( Serbohorse. Životi kraljeva i arhiepiskopa srpskih ) are a monument to Old Serbian literature .
The most significant monument of Serbian medieval historiography. It is a genealogy, a collection (set) of the lives of kings from the Nemanjic clan and the rulers of the Serbian church. Compiled by the Serbian Archbishop (d. 1337) and his followers in the XIV century.
Description
Other titles of the work: “Danilov collection”, “Genealogy”, “Space maker” [1] . The introduction of the part that is dedicated to kings begins with the headline: “Life and Life and the Tale of the Charitable Works of the Saints and Pious and Christ-Loving Kings of the Serbian and Pomeranian Land”.
Danila wrote “The Life of Archbishop Arseny I”, “The Life of Joannicius I”, “The Life of Eustathius I”; "The Life of King Uros", "The Life of King Dragutin", "The Life of Queen Helena" (1317), "The Life of King Milutin" (1324) [2] .
“Lives” draw the majestic history of Serbia, for more than a hundred years ruled by the holy kings and rulers of the Serbian church: All Serbian kings in this work are “holy” and “pious”. In 1337-1340, the pupil of Danil II supplemented the essay with the lives of his teacher, King Stephen Decansky and Tsar Stephen Dushan . On the unfinished living of Dushan, the writing of “Lives” in the part of the rulers was over. Subsequent authors of the essay continued to create the lives of only church leaders. On the basis of "Lives" was written " Russian Chronograph " in 1512. The writing of Danil II probably served as a model for creating the “ Power book of the royal lineage ” in the middle of the 16th century [3] . The Lives were completed no later than the end of the XIV century [4] .
Secular rulers commit ascetic prayer feat in the fight against sinful thoughts and passions. Thus, it is written in the "Life of Dragutin": "Oh, my soul is sad, o poor soul, you have lived carelessly all your days in your youth; O soul, the sun has already gone down, and your age is ending, sin-loving, there is no salvation for you, but only faithful torment. ”
