Biography
Born in Philadelphia , in the family of Jewish emigrants from the Russian Empire, Joseph Tish (who changed his name to Fisher in the 1930s; 1901-1967) and Gita Vinokur (1902-1991).
First gained fame in the late 1940s, speaking in music radio programs. In 1951, drafted into the army, where he served as the lead vocalist of the musical band of the US Armed Forces (Pershing's Own). A strong and melodic tenor, coupled with a winning appearance, made him the idol of American teenagers in the first half of the 1950s.
He recorded his first single, “Thinking of You,” in 1950. A year later, the disc “Anytime” was sold in a million copies. US Presidents Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower called Fisher their favorite performer. The peak of his success on the charts was 1953. His songs “Thinking of You” and “Oh! My Pa-Pa. " Then its popularity faded due to a series of scandals.
In addition to music, Fisher is known for his marriages with Hollywood stars Debbie Reynolds (1955–1959), Elizabeth Taylor (1959–1964) and Connie Stevens (1967–1969).
