The Game Awards is an annual award ceremony celebrating achievements in the gaming industry . The Game Awards is a large-scale show that attracts great media attention and is held at the end of the calendar year. In addition to the actual presentation of awards to game developers, the ceremony includes the performance of music, performances by various figures in the gaming industry, announcements and trailers of new games. The Game Awards is the successor to the Spike Video Game Awards , held annually from 2003 to 2013 under the patronage of Spike TV . The founder, producer and permanent host of The Game Awards is the Canadian journalist and television presenter Jeff Kayley , who has previously served as the host of the Spike Video Game Awards for many years.

Traditionally, the Spike Video Game Awards took place in December, before the start of the Christmas sales season, as opposed to another important event in the gaming industry, Electronic Entertainment Expo , usually held in June; It is this niche that The Game Awards [1] occupies. In 2013, the Spike Video Game Awards show was renamed VGX (instead of the old VGA ) - its producers wanted to show the special attention that the show pays to the new generation of games and gaming platforms. The Game Awards 2018
The fifth award ceremony of The Game Awards 2018 was held on the night of December 6-7, 2018 by Canadian journalist and TV presenter Jeff Cayley at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles [6] [7] [8] [9] . The ceremony was broadcast on more than 40 different services around the world [10] . According to official figures, The Game Awards 2018 watched live by more than 26 million viewers, compared to 2017, the award ceremony for The Game Awards increased by 128% [11] [12] . A total of 10.5 million viewers took part in the vote [13] [14] [15] [16] . The peak rate of simultaneous views on the Twitch video streaming service was recorded at 1.13 million viewers, which is one of the highest rates in the service’s history [13] . The maximum number of spectators who simultaneously watched the ceremony in live broadcast on all available streaming platforms exceeded 4 million people [15] [17] [18] .
The show was attended by famous figures in the gaming industry and cinema , including: directors Jeff Kaplan and Josef Fares, directors Brothers Russo and Brothers Duffer ; actors / actresses Christoph Waltz , Aisha Tyler , Rosa Salazar , Jonah Hill , Joel McHale ; musicians River Cuomo and Brandon Uri ; Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Sean Leiden, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer and Nintendo CEO Reggie Fis-Aime , as well as streamers Jacksepticeye, Ninja, Pokimane [19] [20] [21] [22] . The list of nominees was announced on November 13, 2018, and any game released before November 22, 2018 was entitled to be considered as a nominee [23] . Also during the event, Epic Games announced the launch of its own digital distribution store Epic Games Store , which offered some of the games shown earlier at the event [28] .
