Biography
Evgeny Dubrovsky was born on December 28, 1870 in Rybinsk [1] in the family of a military doctor. In childhood, he often moved with his family [2] . After graduating from the law faculty of St. Petersburg University, he served in the Ministry of Agriculture [3] . He was also engaged in journalism, since 1904 he was an employee of the newspaper " New time ". He wrote about materials about forest, hunting and nature [3] . Since 1914 he worked as a forester in the Urals. In 1918 he moved to Vladimir , worked as a foreman for the preparation of fuel and a rafts. In 1924 he moved to Leningrad, and in the same year published his first short stories in “ Evening Red Newspaper ” [1] . Devoted himself exclusively to literary activity, wrote about nature. Taking the pseudonym Lesnik , Dubrovsky emphasized that in his works he shares his impressions gained over the years of work in the forests [4] . In 1928, his books for children “Wolf”, “Samolov”, “First Snow”, “Giant Grouse” were published. Later, his books for adults were published: "Meetings in the Forest", "Far Years", "Forest Noise" [3] . He was an employee of the children's magazines " Hedgehog " and " Chizh " [5] . In total, from 1924 to 1941, Dubrovsky wrote about 40 books, of which about 30 are books for children. Some of his works were later reprinted [1] .
Evgeny Dubrovsky died on November 23, 1941 in besieged Leningrad [1] . He was buried at the Shuvalovsky cemetery [3] .
