Douglas MacDowell ( born Douglas Maurice MacDowell ; 03/08/1931, London - 01/16/2010, Glasgow) - British classic philologist. Professor at the University of Glasgow (1971-2001, emérit), member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (1991), member of the British Academy (1993).

He graduated from Oxford Balliol College .
In 1954-58 taught in schools. In 1958-1971 taught at the University of Manchester.
In 1971-2001 Professor of the University of Glasgow, then Emeritus . He set a record for being in his position [2] .
Honorary Dr. Oxford (1994).
He left the University of Glasgow an inheritance of £ 2.4 million. In memory of him, a department was named after him at the University of Glasgow.
