History
The Macau Volleyball Amateur Association was formed in 1944 . Since 1986 - Member of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) . In 1999 , China’s sovereignty over Macao was restored, but the sport, including volleyball, in this former Portuguese possession continued its independent existence, and the territory volleyball association, which received its current name, retained its membership in the FIVB.
In September 1987, in the Chinese Shanghai, the women's volleyball team Macau first entered the international official arena, taking part in the Asian Championship . The performance of the debutantes was unsuccessful - 5 losses in 5 matches and the last 11th place. Two years later, Macau volleyball players once again participated in the next Asian championship , held in Hong Kong , but again failed to win a single victory in 5 games, closing the final championship table. After that, the Macao national team was no longer declared to the continental competitions.
In 2006, the first Luzofon Games took place in Macau, in which sports delegations from Portuguese-speaking countries and territories took part. Over the years, three such multisport competitions took place - in 2006, 2009 and 2014 - and the Macau national team always became the silver medalist in the women's volleyball tournament of the Games, although only three teams participated in each of these tournaments.
