Tirwitt, Mary

Lady Brigadier Mary Joan Caroline Tirwitt DBE TD ( Eng. Dame Mary Joan Caroline Tyrwhitt ; December 22, 1903 - March 18, 1997 ) - British soldier, Brigadier of the British Army , from April 1946 to January 1949 - commander of the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Corps, in 1949-1950 commander of the Royal Women’s Army Corps. During World War II, she served in the territorial defense forces, in 1953 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (Lady Commander) and the Territorial Insignia.
