Technical Features

In combination with the two new DIGIC 6+ processors, the new matrix allows you to bring the system's photosensitivity to ISO 409 600, twice the same parameter as its predecessor [2] . The frequency of serial shooting with a moving mirror is increased to 14 frames per second, surpassing the main competitor Nikon D5 and the previous model, which take 2 frames less in a second. At the same time, the operation of tracking autofocus and automatic exposure control are supported . For 2016, this is a record for SLR cameras, previously achieved only in cameras with a fixed translucent mirror [3] [4] .

With a fixed mirror, serial shooting is possible with a frequency of up to 16 frames per second [5] . These speeds are only available when using the new LP-E19 battery. Older LP-E4N batteries from the previous model are compatible, but provide 12 and 14 frames per second with a movable and raised mirror, respectively. At any speed, the maximum burst length for JPEG format is unlimited, and for RAW files is 170 frames, provided that you use CFast memory cards. Moreover, the latest digital image optimization function does not affect speed in any way, correcting vignetting , chromatic aberration , distortion and diffraction scattering on the fly individually for each lens [2] .

The camera supports shooting ultra-high definition video standard 4K (4096 × 2160/60 fps), as well as Full HD with the ability to accelerate up to 120 frames per second. Ultra-high-definition videos can be continuously recorded for up to 30 minutes, allowing you to extract individual photos with a resolution of 8.8 megapixels if necessary [6] . The new phase autofocus module contains 61 focus points, each of which is operational up to the value of the relative aperture f / 8 [7] . Such sensitivity is especially relevant in sports photojournalism, allowing you to effectively focus telephoto lenses in combination with tele-converters , significantly reducing aperture [8] . The system works according to the latest AI Servo AF III + tracking focus algorithm at very low illuminances up to -3 EV [6] . In the movie mode, contrast autofocus is activated using the “Dual Pixel CMOS AF” and “Movie Servo AF” technologies with the ability to select a focus point on a liquid crystal display that combines a touchscreen function.

The camera is equipped with a flickering light sensor, which first appeared in the semi-professional model Canon EOS 7D Mark II , and a GPS module that accurately records the geographical coordinates , elevation above sea level and the direction of shooting. The 360-kilopixel TTL exposure meter measures both normal light through three RGB channels and infrared radiation . The dual memory card slot supports the usual CompactFlash standard drives and the latest CFast 2.0. Like the previous model, the camera is equipped with an Ethernet port and an attached Wi-Fi module for transferring pictures to a remote computer or FTP server. The new WFT-E8 module supports high-speed wireless communication using the modern IEEE 802.11ac protocol [6] . The claimed value of $ 5,999 is $ 500 lower than the Nikon D5. At the same time, the start of sales, scheduled for April 2016, as well as that of the main competitor, is timed to the preparation of the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro [7] .
