House Atreides is a noble family of great plot importance in the Dune Universe created by writer Frank Herbert . House Atreides is one of the Great Houses of the intergalactic feudal empire. Representatives of House Atreides play a significant role in each novel in the series.
The author produces this dynasty from the famous ancient Greek clan Atrides [1] , which has been pursued by a sad fate for several generations ( Atreus , Fiesta , Agamemnon , Orestes , etc.).
The home planet of the Atreides since the Butlerian Jihad was the planet Caladan . The first representatives of the clan, permanently residing on the planet, were Estes and Kagin, the sons of Veronica Terget , the local, and Vorian Atreides , the son of the titan Agamemnon .
Under Emperor Shaddam IV, the Atreides received a desert planet, Arrakis , in their possession, and the house moved to Arrakin , its capital.

In the events of the novel "Dune"
Main article: Dune (novel)
In the Dune novel, the head of the house of Atreides, the Duke of Summer, receives from the paddish emperor Shaddam IV Corrino the deserted planet Arrakis, formerly in the dominion of the house of the Harkonnen. However, Summer does not know that Shaddam conspired with the head of the house Kharkonnenov , Baron Vladimir , for the complete destruction of the Atreides house, which in their opinion became excessively powerful. Summer is dying, and his concubine, Lady Jessica and son Paul, end up with the Fremen, the local natives, with whom they raise a rebellion. As a result of the uprising of Shaddam Corrino, they are forced to abdicate and Paul Atreides becomes the next emperor.
