Biography
He influenced the development of instrumental music, especially in the genres of sonata , concert and symphony . Barsanti was born in 1690 in the city of Lucca .
Little is known about him. When he was young, he was sent to Padua , where he was supposed to study science, but fell in love with music and decided to study it, becoming a flutist and oboe player. In 1717 and in 1718 he played the oboe during the large liturgical services that took place every year in Santa Croce.
After working for many years in London , in 1735 Barsanti travels to Scotland, where he marries a Scottish woman. There he published his best works: 10 concerts of op.3 in 1742 and 9 overtures of op.4 around 1743.
Then he returned to London, where he performed as a viola musician in the orchestras of London theaters. Some documents of the Edinburgh Musical Union say that Barsanti used to play the timpani, but sold them because he needed the money to return to London.
He died in poverty in 1772.
