Biography
He was a child prodigy . The first concert was given at the age of seven. With the financial support of the King of Portugal, Fernando II performed throughout Europe with celebrities such as Vietan and Wieniawski . At the age of 15 he gave concerts in New York . In 1866 he moved to Rio de Janeiro where he made money selling musical instruments and editing scores . Contributed to the development and dissemination of Brazilian music [1] .
He continued to perform as a pianist and chamber performer, often with Cuban violinist Jose White-and-Lafitte . He taught the piano. One of his famous students was Shikinya Gonzaga .
In 1883 he founded the Society of Classical Music Concerts in Rio de Janeiro.
In addition to music, he was fond of chess , about which he wrote a book published in 1898 . Three years later, he participated in a remote chess tournament (by telegraph ) between Brazil and Argentina .
He occupied the chair number 18 of the .
He died in Rio de Janeiro in 1925 .
