Biography
Born February 22, 1851 in the city of Cynthiana , Kentucky.
In 1910 he moved to the city of Norwalk , Connecticut . He was self-taught and the only one from the Hoosier Group who did not visit Europe for training. Initially, he painted portraits and home interiors, then began to create landscapes.
Richard Grull died on November 4, 1914 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was buried in the city cemetery Crown Hill Cemetery . [one]
Family
He was married to Alice Benton Gruelle (d. 1935). [2] His eldest son, Johnny Gull (1880-1938), was a commercial artist, known as the creator of a fictional character - Rag Annie . Another son is Justin ( English Justin C. Gruelle , 1889-1978). [3]
