Biography
Dmitry Romashov was born on October 6, 1899 in Moscow. In 1921 he graduated from Moscow State University . From 1921 to 1942 he worked at the Institute of Experimental Biology (in 1938, the Institute received the new name Institute of Cytology, Histology and Embryology , USSR Academy of Sciences ). From 1942 to 1946 he worked at the All-Russian Research Institute of Pond Fisheries. In 1946 he returned to the Institute of Cytology, Histology and Embryology, where he worked for 2 years. From 1953 to 1955 he worked at the Forest Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences , from 1955 to 1963 he worked at the Institute of Biophysics of the USSR Academy of Sciences .
Dmitry Romashov died on May 19, 1963 in Krasnoyarsk.
Scientific work
The main scientific works are devoted to population genetics. Dmitry Dmitrievich is the founder of a new line of research on the natural and experimental gynogenesis in fish.
- He studied the inheritance and the role of the element of chance in changing the genetic structure of a population.
- Investigated the effect of radiation on fish.
- Conducted a genetic analysis of natural populations of Drosophila.
- 1932 - Together with N.P. Dubinin, he participated in the development of the theory of genetic-automatic processes in a population.
