Thakba [1] ( Viet . Hồ Thác Bà ) is a large reservoir in northern Vietnam , which was formed as a result of the construction of a hydroelectric station of the same name on the Tyay River (a tributary of the Lo River). The construction of the dam was carried out from 1964 to 1971 [2] . Located in Lukyen and Yenbin counties of Yen Bai Province, about 160 km north-west of Hanoi .

The reservoir stretches for about 60 km from the north-west to south-east. The surface area is 234 km². On the reservoir there are 1331 islands. On the shores of Thakba spread hills built of limestone and covered with forests; There are many caves.
The creation of the Thakba reservoir changed the climate of the western part of the province from hot and arid to more moderate [3] . There are many fish farms [4] .
