Biography and posts
Born March 2, 1929 in Ceprano [1] in the province of Frosinone of the Italian region of Lazio . He was ordained a priest at the age of 25 on September 29, 1954 .
He was appointed pope Paul VI titular archbishop of Graziana on August 1, 1975 , ordained to the rank of October 5 of that year, Cardinal Jean-Marie Villot [1] [2] .
Immediately upon his appointment, he was sent by the archbishop to the Haitian Apostolic Nuncio . He was in this post from August 1, 1975 to November 19, 1983 [2] ; in 1975-1980, concurrently served as the apostolic delegate to the Antilles [3] . During his service in Haiti, a residence was built for the papal nuncii, which later remained one of the surviving buildings and sheltered many who were left homeless in the 2010 earthquake and tsunami [4] .
From November 19, 1983 to January 17, 1987 he was an apostolic pro-nuncio in Iraq and Kuwait ; from January 17, 1987 to April 12, 1991 - the Apostolic Nuncio in Ecuador , from April 12, 1991 to May 15, 1999 - in Honduras . From May 15, 1999 to August 8, 2001, he served as the Apostolic Nuncio in Turkey and, in combination, in Turkmenistan . [5] On August 8, 2001, he was appointed apostolic nuncio in Malta and in Libya. During his ministry as a nuncio in Haiti, Ecuador, Honduras and Malta, he also served as the Doyen of the diplomatic corps of the countries concerned.
In June 2003, he resigned from the diplomatic service [1] [6] , returning to his homeland in Ceprano. In both last posts he was replaced by the Spanish prelate Felix del Blanco-Prieto [6] [7] .
He died at home on December 5, 2015; A farewell service was held on December 7, 2015 in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore by Bishop [4] .
