Biography

The fourth son of Henri de Croix , Count of Porsean, and Charlotte de Chateaubriand

In 1519 he was elected bishop of Cambrai, after the elder brother Guillaume , who became cardinal and archbishop of Toledo, abandoned the pulpit in his favor. Since Robert was not destined for a spiritual career, and accepted the position to keep it in the possession of the family, it took him ten years to prepare for power in the strategically important frontier diocese for the Empire. Among other mentors, he was taught theology by Juan Luis Vives .

The first Episcopal Mass was celebrated on August 5, 1529, on the day when the so-called Ladies' Peace was concluded between France and the Empire.

In 1546 he participated in the Council of Trent . In October 1550 he convened a cathedral in Cambrai, attended by the famous mystic Blosius ( Louis de Blois-Chatillon ). At this meeting, Augsburg Interim was announced for its diocese.

Buried in the Cathedral of Cambrai.
