Biography

He graduated from Eaton and Cambridge Trinity College , where he received bachelor's degrees (1960) and master's degrees (1964), as well as a doctor of philosophy (1964) and a doctor of literature (2001).

From 1964 - assistant, in 1966-1972 - lecturer in the Department of Medieval History at St. Andrews University .

  • 1972-1978 - Lecturer, Cambridge History Department,
  • 1978-1994 - Professor of History , University of London ,
  • 1994-2005 - Professor of Cambridge University and a member of his Emmanuel College, in 1997-1999 - Dean of the Department of History of Cambridge.

In 2006-2007 he was honored to give lectures to them. Gifford University of Edinburgh .

Member of the Royal Historical Society . Bailiff of the British Order of St. John .

He was married, has children.

He is credited with carrying out a coup in the history of the Crusades, which led to a revision of their foundations - not in pursuit of conquest, but on the basis of a religious feeling for the liberation of the Holy Lands and their return to Christians [3] .
