Biography
During World War II he worked as a war correspondent. After its completion, he got a job in the culture department of the France-Soire newspaper, where he worked for more than ten years. Working in the newspaper allowed Balducci to make acquaintance with many figures of French cinema of that time, such as Jacques Becker , Roger Vadim , Philippe de Broca , Jacques Demy , Christian-Jacques , Claude Lelouch , Jean-Pierre Melville and Francois Truffaut . As a result, by the beginning of the 1960s, Richard decided to leave the newspaper and devote himself to work in cinema [1] [2] [3] . Back in 1959, Balducci played a small role in the debut film of Jean-Luc Godard " In the last breath ", but this role remained the only one in his film career [4] .
Since the 1960s, he worked as a screenwriter, and also organized filming. The idea of his most famous film saga about the gendarme from Saint-Tropez came to Balducci's mind by chance. According to his own recollections, he once was at Saint-Tropez for work - he had to choose the nature for the filming of the next film. At that moment, a camera was stolen from his car. Richard came to the local gendarmerie to report the theft. In the police station, he found one gendarme who reluctantly rose to accept a statement from Balducci, and then said: “I know your thief. I almost caught him a few days ago. " Returning to Paris, Balducci spoke about the troubles that had happened to him to Louis de Funes , who replied to this: “From this we must make a film.” Thus, the first film about Louis Cruchot - the most famous French gendarme - was born. Subsequently, several sequels to the film [1] [3] were shot.
In the 1970s and the first half of the 1980s, he shot several films as both the author of the script and the director. Most of these films were not seen by critics, but, in Richard's own words, he did not care [1] .
