This Is Acting

“This Is Acting” is the seventh studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Siia Ferler , released January 29, 2016 via Inertia , Monkey Puzzle Records, RCA Records . Adel became the co-author of the lead single “ Alive ”, and among the producers of the album are Greg Kerstin , Diplo , Jesse Shatkin and Kanye West . The deluxe re-release of This Is Acting was released on October 21, 2016 with the addition of three new tracks: a remix of “Cheap Thrills”, a remix of “Move Your Body”, as well as a solo and joint version with Kendrick Lamar of the new single “ The Greatest ” [10] . Grammy Award nomination for Best Vocal Pop Album .

History

In the wake of the successful previous sixth studio album 1000 Forms of Fear , in December 2014, Sia told Spin magazine that she had fully prepared two new records [11] [12] . She first clarified the details of her new album, This Is Acting, in an interview she gave to NME magazine in February 2015. In this article, she confirmed that the work on the album was completed and that its content is more “poppy” than all her previous works [13] [14] . She also admitted that the success of 1000 Forms of Fear , especially his single “ Chandelier ” [15] , inspired her to create new musical material and announced the name of the new album: “I will call it This Is Acting , because there are songs that I wrote for others people, so I don’t think that "this is what I would say." It is more like a game, acting. This is fun. ” [16] [17] In April 2015, during an online chat with her fans, Sia confirmed that the album is likely to be released in early 2016, but possibly by the end of 2015 [18] . In September 2015, Sia confirmed that the lead single “ Alive ” will be released a month later and that it was originally written for Adele ; however, the British singer and co-author abandoned her at the last minute [19] [20] .

The album was released on January 29, 2016 via Inertia, Monkey Puzzle Records and RCA Records . The disc debuted at No. 4 on the US Billboard 200 charts with a circulation of 81,000 album equivalent units (68,000 true album sales), a record in the US singer’s career) [21] By January 1, 2017, 904,000 album equivalent units were sold in USA [22] .

This Is Acting received generally positive reviews from music critics and online publications [23] , for example, from Billboard [3] , AllMusic [1] , NME [6] , The Independent [5] , The Guardian [4] , Rolling Stone [7] , Slant Magazine [8] , Spin [9] , The AV Club [2] .

Live performances

On November 7, 2015, Sia introduced the songs “Alive” and “Bird Set Free” on Saturday Night Live ; The episode was with Donald Trump , who announced the singer’s performance [24] [25] [26] . On December 1, 2015, she performed “ Alive” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Voice [27] [28] , and then performed “Alive” on The X Factor in the UK (December 6) [29] . On December 11th, Sia appeared on The Graham Norton Show , where she sang “Alive” in mask [30] . On January 27, 2016, Sia introduced the song “ Cheap Thrills ” in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon [31] .
