History
In July 1983, the LTTE fighters attacked a government patrol in the city of Jaffna, which caused a response from the signals that organized the Tamil riots. These events are known as Black July. The government imposed martial law.
After the consolidation of LTTE, the head of the Velupillai Prabhakaran formation requires that most of its supplies for smuggling should be by sea. It soon became clear that the naval forces are a necessary component for the conduct of guerrilla warfare.
Then in 1984 Velupillai Prabhakaran decided to create a detachment "Sea Tigers". In the early years, his main task was the redeployment of personnel and equipment between the LTTE units in the states of Tamil Nadu and Jaffna . The first military baptism of the detachment was an offensive operation against the naval forces of Sri Lanka .
The LTTE leader appointed Soosai as a tiger commander. [4] The strategic introduction and execution of operations at sea was carried out under the leadership of the field commander Sri Rama. [four]
