Najib al-Nuaimi is a Qatari writer, lawyer and human rights defender. In 1995-1997, he served as Minister of Justice of Qatar [1] [2] . Previously taught public law at the University of Qatar [3] .

In 2002, en-Nuaimi and a group of lawyers defended the rights of more than 70 Guantanamo prisoners. [2] He also became the last lawyer for Iraqi President Saddam Hussein [4] . In 2013, he defended the rights of the arrested Qatari poet Mohammed al-Ajami [5] .
Biography
He studied law in the United Kingdom and Egypt [3] .
In 1995-1997 he was the Minister of Justice of Qatar [1] . In 1997, he created a law firm [6] . In 2002, he and his lawyers defended in court, according to various sources, from 70 [2] to 100 [7] Guantanamo prisoners, who, according to the American authorities, were members of al-Qaeda and the Taliban [2] . Al Nuaimi stated that most of Guantanamo’s prisoners accused of terrorist activities were agreed upon by the Pakistani police and the Afghan Northern Alliance. [8]
An Nouaimi was one of three non-Iraqi lawyers who defended the Iraqi president in his final trial. [9] According to Najib al-Nuaimi, the trial of Hussein , in which the former ruler of Iraq was sentenced to death, was illegal, since the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 was contrary to international law [10] [11] . The family of Hussein and his colleagues requested the protection of Saddam Hussein al-Nuaimi [4] . Al-Nuaimi did not charge for participation in this process [12] .
In 2013, al-Nuaimi defended the Qatari poet Mohammed al-Ajami, who was accused of criticizing the emir of Qatar in his poem [13] . In 2012, al-Ajami was sentenced to life imprisonment, but al-Nuaimi appealed [13] . In February 2013, a new verdict was passed, this time al-Ajami received 15 years in prison. Then al-Nuaimi appealed to the Court of Cassation, the highest court of Qatar. In October of the same year, the cassation court upheld the verdict handed down by al-Ajami, commenting on the court’s decision, al-Nuheim said: “Our judicial system cannot be trusted” [14] .
In 2012, al-Nuaimi stated that he was ready to defend the interests of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in court if asked to do so [12] .
