Biography
Jacob Prince was born on September 23 (or September 28), 1891 in Chuch. After some time, he moved to Moscow , after which he entered Moscow State University and graduated in 1917. From 1917 to 1930 he worked in research institutions of Azerbaijan and Georgia. Since 1930, he headed the department of the All-Union Research Institute of Viticulture in Georgia. In 1934 he moved to Leningrad , where from 1934 to 1946 he held the position of head of the laboratory of the All-Union Institute for Plant Protection. In 1946 he moved to the Moldavian SSR, to Chisinau and connected his further life with this city. Since 1946, he headed the immunity laboratory of the Moldavian station of the All-Union Institute for Plant Protection. From 1950 to 1956, he headed the plant protection department of the Institute for Fruit Growing, Viticulture, and Winemaking of the Moldavian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Moldavian SSR . From 1956 to 1966 he headed the department of invertebrate zoology of the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Moldavian SSR .
Jacob Prince died on May 23, 1966 in Chisinau.
Scientific work
The main scientific works are devoted to the study of the biology and ecology of agricultural pests and the development of measures to combat them.
- He proposed methods of combating grape phylloxera using fumigants.
- 1949 - Proposed (jointly with A.V. Blagoveshchensky ) the phenolic theory of phylloxera resistance of grapes.
