He took part in the first official competitions in the 1999-2000 season, in which he took 5th place in the national championship as part of the Torpedo-ShAAZ team. On December 16, 2000, Nikolai first played for the team of the Shadrinsk Auto Aggregate Plant on the ice of the Ufa Stroitel stadium in the first stage of the Russian team championship [1] .

Already in the next 2000/01 season, he won the junior national championship, and with the Torpedo-SHAAZ team he became the bronze medalist of the Russian Speedway Team Championship on ice . In the 2001/02 season he moved to the Ufa team “Bashkortostan”, as a part of which he has so far won nine league titles, including 6 in a row (2004–2008). In the personal championship of the country he won seven league titles.

Becoming in 2003 for the first time winner of the personal championship of Russia on speedway on ice , he received the right to speak in the cycle of the Personal World Championship , in which he became the 8th in the debut season. Already in the next season, the athlete became the third in the world, and since 2005 set a record series - 8 victories in the personal world championship, and in a row (2005-2012). It is particularly noteworthy that in 2006 and 2009, Nikolai Krasnikov won all stages of the championship.

In 2007 he graduated from the Shadrinsk State Pedagogical Institute [2] .

At the end of the 2011 season, he announced his retirement. The athlete said that he would continue to compete only so that the Ufa club would not lose ground in the national championship [3] . However, as the racer later explained, “the political situation in the republic [Bashkortostan] did not allow me to do this, and I drove completely last season [2011-2012]” [4] . In the 2013 season, the driver did not compete in the LCM, but he took part in the KCM. In the season of 2014, he missed international competitions and the Champions League of Russia, but in 2015 he returned to the European Championship and the World Championship, took part in the stage of the World Championship. The same situation repeated in 2016.

Trainers - Oleg Krasnikov, Vladimir Belonogov (mechanic), Sergey Shutov.

In 2011, he headed the Motorsport Federation of the Republic of Bashkortostan [5] , but resigned in August 2015 due to the lack of progress in the development of motor sports in the country and the cessation of funding for G. Kadyrov " [6] .

In addition to motorcycle races on ice, it takes part in motocross and cross-country snowmobile rides.
