Restu, Denise

Denise Restou ( French: Denise Restout ; November 24, 1915 , Paris - March 9, 2004 , Lakeville, Connecticut ) - French - American harpsichordist and musicologist, assistant and companion Wanda Landowski .

She studied at the School of Applied Arts in Paris, then at the Paris Conservatory. In 1933 , she began to play the harpsichord under the direction of Landowska, then was an assistant in her class, played the part of the second harpsichord ( basso continuo ) during joint performances. With the outbreak of World War II, she fled with Landowska via Lisbon to New York and later remained close to Landowska until her death.

After the death of Landowska in 1959 , Denise Restu taught the theory and practice of clavier art of the Baroque and XVIII century in various musical institutions, including the Peabody Conservatory . In later years, she was also an organist of St. Mary's Catholic Church in the town of Lakeville.

Restu translated the first book of Landowska's Old Music ( French by Musique ancienne ) into English from French, compiled, edited and translated the collection of articles and letters Landowska on music ( English Landowska on music ; 1964 ).
