Short-billed sea bass [1] ( lat. Sebastes brevispinis ) is a flock of marine bottom fish of the Scorpaenidae family (Scorpaenidae).

DescriptionThe maximum body length is 71 cm, weight - 4.7 kg. The maximum life expectancy is 82 years [2] [3] .
The body is massive, tall, covered with ctenoid scales . The head is large, pointed, the lower jaw protrudes forward. The dorsal fin has 13 hard and 15-17 soft rays; anal fin 3 hard and 7 soft rays.
RangeDistributed in the northeastern Pacific Ocean from California to Alaska .
ReproductionViviparous fish with internal fertilization. Mating takes place in winter. Sperm is stored inside the female for several months until the eggs are fertilized. Hatching takes place inside the female; larvae are hatched in the coastal waters of Washington and Oregon in April - June, and in Alaska Bay in May - July. Fertility is from 100 thousand to 2.2 million larvae.
Economic valueValuable commercial fish. Fishing is carried out mainly by trawls.
