Biography
Vasily Semenovich Sergushev was born into a peasant family in the village of Chernyshevka in the Saratov district of the Saratov province (currently the Novoburas district of the Saratov region ). He graduated from the 4th grade of the school. In 1936 he left to live and work as a tractor driver in Baku.
In June 1941, the Frunze District Military Commissariat of Saratov was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . On the fronts of World War II from January 1942.
By order of the 54th separate rifle brigade of October 25, 1943, for his courage and heroism in the battles with the Nazi invaders for the capture of the village of Bolshoi Khochuzh, Junior Sergeant Sergushev was awarded the medal “For Courage” .
In a battle near the village of Schenaikino, 30 km north of the city of Velikie Luki, on January 14, 1944, mortar gunner Junior Sergeant Sergushev with a well-aimed mortar fire destroyed a group of enemy soldiers and a sniper. On January 15, Brod broke a cart with ammunition near the village of Nikitichi. On January 23, an ammunition depot was set on fire at the Nasva station and suppressed 2 enemy mortars. By order of the 97th Rifle Corps of February 22, 1944, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
By order of the 54th separate rifle brigade of August 10, 1944, for courage and heroism in battles with the Nazi invaders in repelling an enemy counterattack in the Madona region of Latvia on July 26, 1944, destroying 6 enemy soldiers and suppressing 3 machine guns, junior sergeant Sergushev was awarded the second medal "For Courage".
In battles for the city of Jekabpils in Latvia, sergeant Sergushev, with a mortar calculation, destroyed about 30 enemy soldiers, a car with ammunition, 3 machine guns with calculations and repelled 3 enemy counterattacks, destroying up to 15 enemy soldiers. When crossing the Iviekste River, he was the first with a mortar to cross and support the crossing of infantry units with his fire, destroying up to 15 enemy soldiers. By order of the 325th Rifle Division of September 20, 1944, he was awarded the second Order of Glory of the 3rd degree. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 18, 1971, he was re-awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
In battles in the Madon region of Latvia on September 19–20, 1944, Sergeant Sergushev destroyed the enemy’s manpower with the fire of his mortar. When repulsing the enemy’s counterattack, he cut off the enemy infantry from the tanks, and when the enemy broke through to the firing position for several hours, he automatically repelled his attacks and destroyed several enemy soldiers. By order of the 85th Rifle Regiment of December 23, 1944, for courage and heroism in battles with the Nazi invaders, he was awarded the third medal "For Courage".
Maintaining mortar fire, crossing the Neman River in the Tilsit region ( Sovetsk ) on January 19, 1945, Sergeant Sergushev with a calculation destroyed the machine gun with the enemy’s calculation, which interfered with the advancement of rifle units.
In a battle in East Prussia for the city of Ragnit ( Neman ), with his calculation, he destroyed a light machine gun and up to 5 enemy soldiers.
When breaking through the enemy’s defense in the vicinity of the village of Bladiau ( Pyatidorozhnoye ) on January 30, he calculated to destroy the enemy’s easel machine gun with a servant and about 5 soldiers, and when 3 enemy counterattacks were repelled, 2 firing points and up to 15 enemy soldiers.
By order of the 43rd Army on March 6, 1945, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
Petty Officer Sergushev continued to serve in the army until 1949. After demobilization he lived in Baku, worked as a steam locomotive engineer.
Vasily Semenovich Sergushev died on October 7, 1975.
