Biography

Born November 29, 1969 in Cuneo. He received a law degree, practiced law at a law firm in Mondovi , and from 1990 to 1999 he was a member of the Villanova-Mondovi municipal council. From June 13, 2004 to June 6, 2009 he served on the Isasca Communal Council (elected from the lists of the Forward Italy Party), from May 29, 2000 to May 16, 2006 he served on the Piedmont Regional Council (also in the Forward Italy Party) [1] [2] .

He was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2006 according to the lists of the Forward Italy Party, in 2008 and 2013 he was re-elected according to the lists of the People of Liberty . He actively participated in the passage through parliament of the bill of the Minister of Justice Angelino Alfano on the suspension of legal action against persons holding the four highest government posts in Italy (in journalistic jargon, the law was called Lodo Alfano ). In November 2013, along with other supporters, Alfano joined the New Right Center after the collapse of the People of Freedom and until February 2014 he led the faction of the new party in the lower house of parliament. In the newly formed government, Renzi received the post of Deputy Minister of Justice [3] .

On January 28, 2016, Costa was appointed to the post of minister without a portfolio of regional and autonomous affairs (his responsibilities also include family and problems of the South of Italy) [4] , which in 1992 in the first government of Amato was occupied by his father, the leader of the Italian liberal Party of [5] .

On January 29, Enrico Costa took the oath of office in the Quirinal Palace and officially took office [6] .

On December 12, 2016 he was appointed Minister without a portfolio for regional affairs in the Gentiloni government formed after the resignation of Matteo Renzi [7] .

On March 18, 2017, in Rome, the national assembly of the new party was held, led by former NPC leader Angelino Alfano , and Costa, along with other members of the Gentiloni government from this structure, followed him, remaining in his former government position [8 ] .

On July 19, 2017, he resigned from his post as Minister for Regional Affairs and announced his intention to promote the rallying of liberals in the center-right camp [9] .

On December 13, 2017, among Maurizio Lupi’s comrades-in-arms, he left the People’s Alternative, joining the Gentiloni’s opposition government with center-right [10] . On December 29, 2017, the Lupi-led election list of Noi con l'Italia (We with Italy) entered into an agreement with the Center Union [11] , and on March 4, 2018 this association went under the name Noi con l'Italia - UdC (We with Italy - SC ) to the next parliamentary elections as part of the center-right coalition, but did not get a single seat in parliament [12] [13] .
