Janel Bishop ( born Janel Bishop ; born in the 1970s ) is an American model, winner of the beauty contest Young Miss USA 1991 . The first African American to win a beauty contest.

Beauty Contest
Janel represented New Hampshire in 1991 at the Young Miss USA beauty pageant in Biloxi .
In the finale, Janelle took third place in the show of bathing suits, fourth place in the interview, fifth in the output in evening dresses and entered the Top 6, taking third place. She became the second member to score high in the interview, getting the opportunity to enter Top 3. She became the first and only winner from New Hampshire. [1] Received $ 150,000 in cash and prizes as part of the prize package.
At the time of victory, she was a student at Manchester High School West and dreamed of working in the field of education. [2]
