Biography
Miller was born and raised in Brooklyn , New York . At the age of 14, he began to engage in Thai boxing in order to be able to fend for himself in street fights [1] . He began to engage in amateur boxing at the age of 16 years. In his youth, Miller's idols were such boxers as: Mike Tyson and Riddick Bow .
Kickboxing
Miller started kickboxing at the age of 15, and three years later in 2006 - at the age of 18 he became a professional kickboxer. Traveling throughout the United States and Europe under the name Jarrell "King" Miller, he secured an 18-0 record, and was considered an unbeaten kickboxer.
But then, in the framework of kickboxing tournaments, he twice met with the famous Croatian mixed martial arts fighter (MMA) Mirko Filipović (Cro Cop) and lost in both fights by unanimous decision - on March 15, 2013 in the quarter finals of the K-1 World tournament Grand Prix 2012 and in an attempt at revenge on June 21, 2014 at the Glory 17: Los Angeles tournament [2] .
In 2014, Miller was suspended for nine months by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), after a forbidden stimulant drug methylhexanamine was found in a urine sample that he passed as a doping test at the Glory 17: Los Angeles tournament [3] .
Boxing
Amateur career
In amateur boxing, in 2007 he reached the final of the local New York Golden Gloves qualifying tournament, where he lost on points (1: 4) to American boxing star Thor Heimer [4] . Miller had an amateur record of 10-1, with 7 knockout wins. [5]
Miller had a short career in amateur boxing, since he had already started his career as a professional kickboxer since 2006. But he made up for the missing experience by working as a sparring partner for such champions as Vladimir and Vitali Klitschko , Tyson Fury and others.
Professional career
On July 18, 2009, Miller began his career as a professional boxer, defeating his compatriot Darius Witson (1-1) by technical knockout in the first round.
January 19, 2013 met with Joya Daveiko . Miller was fined 2 points per shot during the fight. The fight lasted for the allotted 4 rounds and ended in a draw, on the maps of all the judges there was the same score (37-37).
Miller repeatedly came to the training camp of boxers of the Klitschko brothers , as a sparring partner helping to prepare for the battles of Vladimir Klitschko . And in an interview with Boxingtalk.com in October 2015, he stated that his goal was to fight Ukrainian heavyweight division leader Vladimir Klitschko: “When I first sparred with Vladimir Klitschko, I had only two professional fights. And the last time we sparred, I had to stay in his training camp for four weeks, but in two weeks I beat him so badly that I was sent home. Wladimir Klitschko is a champion in the ring and beyond, and I admire his attitude to boxing. But I would like to knock him out ” [6] .
On October 23, 2015, Miller met with the promising 27-year-old Uzbek boxer Akhror Muralimov (16-1, 13 KOs), whom Miller defeated by knockout in the 3rd round [7] .
On January 22, 2016, Miller fought for the title of interim champion of North America according to WBA- NABA with 28-year-old compatriot Donovan Dennis (12-2, 10 KOs), who Miller defeated by TKO in the 7th round [8] .
On May 27, 2016, Miller fought for the WBO- NABO champion of North America with 37-year-old compatriot Nick Givas (12-3-2, 9 KOs), who Miller defeated by technical knockout in the 2nd round, sending Givas four times to knockdown [9] .
Fight with Gerald Washington
July 29, 2017 met with Gerald Washington. Washington started the 1st round very well, moving a lot and working as a jab, but already at the end of the first three minutes Miller began to successfully close the distance and get his opponent with blows to the head and body. From the 2nd round in the ring, a slow but methodical beating of Gerald Washington began, which he managed to stop only at the beginning of the sixth three-minute period, when he carried out a series of good, accurate punches to Miller’s head. However, at the end of this round, Jarrell Miller almost finished the fight ahead of schedule - the gong saved the Washington knockout. The seventh and eighth rounds also passed under the complete dominance of Jarrell Miller, and immediately after the end of the eighth three-minute seconds Washington took him off the battle - refusing to continue the fight.
Fight with Mariusz Wach
Wach had a good first round, but in the next rounds his younger opponent dominated the ring, although Mariusz sometimes snapped pretty well. The leisurely course of the battle was revived by rather interesting exchanges at close range.
Miller acted ingenuously, leaning on the sweeping side and trying to break the uppercut right, but never shook Wach. The stubborn Polish Viking was not going to give in, trying to respond to Miller’s straightforward attacks and would surely have reached the end of the fight, but in the sixth round the Pole broke his right arm, and the doctor suggested stopping the fight before the start of the eighth round.
“I can’t use my right hand, I can’t use my right hand,” Wach repeated in his corner after the seventh round.
However, Wahu was given another chance, but already in the ninth round, the referee decided to stop the fight, in which the Pole no longer had any chance of winning.
Fight with Joan Duop
Fight with Tomasz Adamek
Fight with Bogdan Dinu
On November 17, 2018, he met with No. 9 of the WBA rating, 32-year-old undefeated Romanian Bogdan Dinu (18-0, 14 KO). In the first two rounds, Dinu had an advantage, he successfully worked from a distance and used a jab. At the end of the first round, the Romanians were even able to shock Miller with the exact right through his hand. Miller, on the other hand, worked in his usual style, exerting constant pressure and betting on blows to the body, which, together with Dean's tiredness, soon began to bear fruit. In the third round, Dinu was actually knocked down after a left hook to the liver, but the referee considered that the blow was inflicted below the waist and did not open the score . But the next round was the last. First, Miller knocked the opponent down with a multi-hit combination, and then did it again. The second time, Dinu was no longer able to get up to the end of the countdown, and the referee recorded a knockout [10] .
Canceled Champion Bout with Anthony Joshua
In mid-February 2019, it was officially announced that on June 1, Briton Anthony Joshua (22-0) will defend his world title in several versions in a fight against American Jarrell Miller in New York, at the famous Madison Square Garden arena [11] . But in mid-April 2019, it became known that Jarrell Miller failed several consecutive doping tests in a row, and was refused a boxing license, because of which he ceased to be a rival against world champion Anthony Joshua [12] .
