Jason Katims ( born Jason Katims ; born November 30, 1960) is an American screenwriter and television producer and playwright. He is known as the main screenwriter and executive producer of the Friday Night Lights series, for which he won an Emmy Award for Best Screenplay for a Drama Series in 2011 for his work on the series finale, and Parents . He also worked on Alien City , where he was a developer, producer, and screenwriter; " My boy "; and the 1996 film Alien Funeral , starring David Schwimmer and Gwyneth Paltrow .

Early life and family

Katims was born in Brooklyn , New York , NY . [1] His father was an actor and seller; his mother, a teacher of English and philosophy, "did some learning." [2] He has an older brother and sister. [3]

He attended Queens College [4] in Queens , New York. [five]

He has two children, Phoebe and Sawyer Katims.

Career

Katims was a playwright in New York until the director and producer Ed Zwick asked him if he would like to write scripts for television and film. [6]

In 1994, he wrote the scripts for three episodes of the teenage drama ABC “ My So-Called Life ”. He created the series Relativity in 1996, but the series was canceled after 17 episodes. He was subsequently involved in work on the TV series Alien City and the Boston School.

Katims worked on NBC 's Friday Night Lights as the main screenwriter and executive producer. He was nominated for the US Scriptwriters Guild Award for Best New Series at a ceremony in February 2007 for his work on the second season of Friday Night Lights. [7] [8] [9] Katims was nominated for the best drama series for the second time at a ceremony in February 2009 for his work on the third season of Friday Night Lights. [10] He was nominated for the WGA Award for Best Drama Series for the third year in a row at a ceremony in February 2010 for his work on the fourth season. [11] In 2011, he was awarded an Emmy Award for Best Screenplay for a drama series for the final of Friday Night Lights. [12]

Katims is also the creator and executive producer of another NBC show , Parents , based on the movie of the same name and the short-lived series that followed; [4] The Katims series debuted in 2010 and ended in 2015. Katims created the character of this series, Max Braverman, but based on his life with his son, who has Asperger Syndrome . [four]

Katims developed My Boy , a 2014 series based on the novel of the same name, for the NBC channel.

He wrote the play, “The Man Who Doesn't Dance,” and is a former member of Stagewrights, a playwright group in New York.
