Exhibit (from the Latin. Exponatus - on display) - the subject of exhibiting for public viewing in a museum or exhibition . Works of art , documents , artifacts , samples of products of natural processes, models of technical products, illustrations of historical events, etc., can be displayed as exhibits in accordance with a museum or an exhibition of a scientific or artistic concept . The exhibits may belong to the exhibiting institution or may be provided by their owners for temporary exhibitions, including those held at a significant distance from their permanent storage.
Depending on the type of exhibits and the way they are displayed for their preservation, special climatic conditions can be created and maintained. For security reasons, exhibits can be placed in special protective cases and equipped with a burglar alarm .
For a better viewer perception, the exhibits are usually accompanied by explanatory inscriptions on the appropriate tablets or labels . In museum practice, this method of transmitting information is called labeling [1] .
The exhibits, which, due to thematic considerations or due to the overload of funds, do not have a place in the main exposition , are stored in specially equipped vaults - the so-called storerooms.
While modern exhibits are mainly used for educational purposes, a few centuries ago, exhibits were selected and exhibited to attract public interest and satisfy her curiosity. In Russia, an example of creating a set of exhibits for entertainment purposes is the opening in 1714 in St. Petersburg of a museum called “ Kunstkamera ” [2] .
The development of technology in the 21st century has led to the creation of digital exhibits. The equipment placed in museums allows the virtual (including holographic ) display of objects and documents of particular value or not subject to display for the general public, audio and video tours of the museum or exhibition [3] .
