History
Received city status on October 23, 1989 [1] .
Geography
Located in the northeastern part of the Prince of Wales Island. The area of the city is 38.5 km², of which 26.9 km² is land and 11.6 km² is water surface.
Population
According to the 2000 census [2] , the population of the city was 199 people. Racial composition: White - 87.44%; Native Americans - 2.51%; African Americans - 0.50%; Asians - 0.50%; representatives of other races - 5.03% and representatives of two or more races - 4.02%. Hispanics of any race accounted for 1.01% of the population.
Of 63 households, 31.7% brought up children under the age of 18, 54.0% were married couples living together, 4.8% of families had women without husbands, 33.3% had no families. At the time of the census, 25.4% of the total number of families lived on their own, while 6.3% were single elderly people aged 65 and over. The average household size is 2.56 people, and the average family size is 3.00 people.
The proportion of persons under the age of 18 is 21.1%; persons aged from 18 to 24 years - 7.5%; from 25 to 44 years old - 32.7%; from 45 to 64 years old - 32.2% and those over 65 years old - 6.5%. The average age of the population is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 168.7 males; for every 100 women over the age of 18, 180.4 are men.
The average income for a joint farm is $ 43,750; The average income per family is $ 44,861. The average per capita income is $ 23,249.
