History

Dr. Lovern Lee More discovered the territory of the present city in 1871, at that time it was Tulare County. The settlement was near Lake Tulare, the largest source of water in central California. Soon, several families lived in the area, but they were quite isolated. Dr. More united the farms and organized a post office in the center of the territory in 1873. The post office refused the proposed name of the city of Latash, and it was decided to name the city of Lemor in honor of the founder. In 1877, a railway passed through the city. In 1893, Tulare County was divided by state legislature into two counties. The western of these became Kings County. After the founding of the new district, a new district center was selected between Lemore and Hanford, however, by that time the population of Hanford exceeded the population of Lemora and 2 railways passed through it, so Hanford was preferred. The city was incorporated in 1900 [2] .
