Race Across America (RAAM) is a cult bike race held in the USA since 1982.
RAAM is one of the longest endurance races in the world. All participants must confirm their ability to drive the race, having previously finished at several qualifying competitions.
RAAM is comparable in length to the Tour de France , but is significantly different from it. The route of each race changes every year, however, the direction of movement is always from the west coast to the east , and is approximately 4800 km, making the race transcontinental. Moreover, there are no stages in the race, that is, the race goes on continuously, from the start to the finish line, and the competition leaders need a little more than a week to cover the entire distance.
For comparison, the Tour de France runs on different routes (clockwise and counter-clockwise in France ; individual stages can be carried out outside France) with an average length of about 3,500 km; The cycling race consists of 21 stages and lasts 3 weeks; passes at high speeds.
