History
In 1934, the Ground Forces Authority approved a plan for the standardization and unification of military vehicles, according to which the Wehrmacht was supposed to create a family of four-wheel drive standardized passenger cars "Einheits-Personenkraftwagen" [1] .
In 1936, StΓΆver, a company located in Stettin , developed and introduced the Stoewer R180 Spezial SUV (equipped with a 42 hp engine), the production of which continued from 1936 to 1938. Later, the Stoewer R200 Spezial SUV (equipped with a new engine with a capacity of 50 hp) was developed, the production of which continued in 1938-1940. The last model of the series was the Stoewer R200 Spezial Typ 40 - with a lightweight body, which allowed to increase the load capacity of the machine from 425 to 500 kg [1] .
In addition to Stoewer-Werke AG, the production of machines was mastered at the Hanomag and BMW [1] automobile plants (under the name Hanomag 20B and BMW 325).
In 1943, the German military-political leadership decided to reduce the range of military vehicles manufactured and the production of an SUV was discontinued [1] .
In total, in 1936 - 1943. StΓΆver firm produced 7.7 thousand cars (4.4 thousand of which were Stoewer R200 Spezial Typ 40 modifications) [1] , taking into account the number of cars produced by other enterprises, the total number is about 13 thousand.
Description
The machine had a simple three-door or four-door open all-metal body that was simple and technologically advanced in production (in the Kfz.2 and Kfz.4 versions there was no right rear door, in place of which a canister with fuel was attached outside the case) with a folding canvas top and removable celluloid windows on the upper part of the door.
