“Challenge” ( Set Set Off ) is an American crime movie of 1996, directed by F. Gary Gray based on a screenplay by Kate Lanier. The main roles in the film were played by Jada Pinkett , Queen Latif , Vivik A. Fox and Kimberly Elise (Elise's film debut). The plot tells about four friends from the same quarter who, for various reasons, join together to rob banks.

Released in November 1996, Challenge was highly praised by leading critics [1] , and Roger Ebert praised the character development and dramatic nature of the story, noting some similarities to the film “ Waiting for Exhalation, ” also about four African-American women [2] . The film was also a commercial hit and the most successful project of New Line Cinema in 1996, earning more than $ 41 million at the box office [3] . Latifa received a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role [4] . The soundtrack for the film was certified platinum in the United States, and the main single “Don't Let Go (Love)” by En Vogue reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 [5] .

Synopsis
Frankie Setton, Los Angeles Bank teller, witnesses a robbery. Shortly after the incident, she was fired allegedly because of a connection with the robber, although Frankie knew nothing about it. After meeting with her friends Stony, Cleo, and Tee, Cleo invites her to plan a robbery to get money. Frankie soon finds a job as a cleaning lady for a meager salary. Shortly afterwards, Stony's brother was shot dead by the police, as they mistakenly mistook him for a robber. The incident pushes the girls to a series of bank robberies.
