The single was number one in the Federal Republic of Germany and Austria, number two in the UK and Switzerland. He also became the band's second single number 1 in Australia (after “Rivers of Babylon”).
The song deals with Grigory Rasputin , the dislike of some high society people towards him, as well as his death.
Rasputin is a song with a melody similar to the second part of the Turkish folk song “Katibim”, Rasputin is a semi-biographical fragment about the life of Russian mystic Gregory Rasputin. Rasputin was a friend and adviser to Tsar Nicholas II. The text of the song sensationally describes Rasputin as a playboy, a mystical healer and a political manipulator.
