Childhood and Youth
Born in Lisbon . His parents: Balthazar Rebelo de Souza, a famous Portuguese politician, former Governor of Mozambique and Minister of Government Antonio de Salazar , and Maria das Neves Fernandes Duarte. Named after Marcel Caetan , who was to be his godfather .
Career
He received his law degree at the University of Lisbon [10] .
He is a law professor and publicist specializing in administrative law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Lisbon , where he is currently teaching law [11] .
He began his career under the “New State” regime as a lawyer , and then as a journalist.
In 1974, Rebelo de Souza joined the Social Democratic Party [10] . From 1975 to 1976 he was a deputy in the Portuguese Parliament [10] . Since 1981, he was in the position of Secretary of State of the Council of Ministers [10] . Since June 1982 - Minister for Parliament [10] .
He was the leader of the Social Democratic Party from March 31, 1996 to May 27, 1999. He created a center-right coalition called the Democratic Alliance , with the People’s Party in 1998. Vice-President of the European People's Party (1997-1999).
Marcel Rebel de Souza had a weekly political analysis program, which was released every Sunday on the public body of the RTP station, after a previously similar program on the private TVI channel.
In 2010, he leaves RTP and returns to TVI to do the same program that he had before.
He was also a member of the Advisory Council under the President of Portugal.
According to him, he sleeps only 4-5 hours daily. Among his hobbies is reading books (reads up to two books a day)
