Colusa is located in northern California, on the Sacramento River . According to the US Census Bureau , it has a total area of ​​4.8 square kilometers. National Wildlife Refuge is 13 km away. Colusa Civil Airport is 4.8 km away.

History

The name of the city of Colusa comes from the name of an Indian tribe, the bark, which lived on the west bank of the Sacramento River. In the 1840s, French researchers found a tribe and began to call the Indians "Colus" because of a pronunciation error. The culture of the tribe was simple, they were quite peaceful, collected nuts, berries and roots, and fished [2] .

In 1850, Charles Sempl bought a Colus ranch on Mexican soil, and then he founded the city under the name Colusi. The first post office opened in 1851. California Legislature renamed the city (and county) into Colusa in 1854. The city expanded because of its advantageous location on the railway. It was incorporated in 1868 [3] .

Population

According to the 2010 census , the population of Koluzy was 5,971 people (of which 50.0% of men and 50.0% of women), 2,142 households and 1,505 families. Racial composition : white - 66.1%, Native Americans - 1.8%, African Americans - 0.9%, representatives of two or more races - 4.2%. 52.4% of the city’s population are Hispanic (49.7% Mexicans) [4] .
