“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” ( eng. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies ) is a comedy melodramatic thriller with horror elements from the 2009 Seth Graham-Smith novel of the same name - a parody of “ Pride and Prejudice ” by Jane Austen . The director and scriptwriter is Burr Steers. The lead roles are played by Lily James , Sam Riley , Jack Houston , Bella Hitkot , Douglas Booth , Matt Smith , Charles Dance and Lina Headey . The US premiere took place on February 5, 2016.

Story

The energetic heroine Elizabeth Bennett is a master of martial arts and weapons, the handsome Mr. Darcy is a brutal killer of zombies and the personification of a prejudicial high society. When the zombie epidemic intensifies, they have to step over pride and unite on the blood-soaked battlefield to defeat the undead once and for all.

Creation

The project was first announced on December 10, 2009, when it became known that Natalie Portman would play the role of Elizabeth Bennett and produce the film, and Lionsgate would finance and distribute the film [4] . December 14, 2009 David O. Russell was announced as a screenwriter and director of the film [5] . On October 5, 2010, Russell left the production of the film. [6] Russell later told in an interview that he had a disagreement with Lionsgate about the budget: he was counting on the amount of 40-50 million dollars, but the studio agreed to allocate him only 25-28 million [7] . On October 6, 2010, Portman abandoned the role of Elizabeth Bennett, but remained the producer of the film [8] . After the departure of Russell, Lionsgate offered the post of director Mike Newell , Neil Marshall , Matt Reeves , David Slade , Mike White, Jeffrey Blitz, Jonathan Demmy and Phil Lord with Chris Miller [9] [10] . November 15, 2010 was hired by Mike White. [11] On January 19, 2011, it was announced that White had left the film due to a conflict in the filming schedules [12] .

In February 2011, Craig Gillespie took over as director [13] . In May 2011, screenwriter Marty Noxon was hired to rewrite Russell’s script [14] . On October 27, 2011, it was announced that Gillespie had left the film. [15] Then the project stalled until March 2013, when Panorama Media joined the production of the film [16] . In May 2013, it was announced that Burr Steers had taken over the duties of a director [17] . Also, Steers rewrote the script. [18]

Shooting

Filming began on September 24, 2014 [19] . On November 4, 2014, the actors were seen on set in Hatfield House , Hertfordshire [20] . Later in November, filming took place in Basing House, Old Basing [21] . On November 13, filming moved to Frensham, Surrey , where they took place until November 21 [22] .
