Biography
Kliment Yakovchik was born in 1898 in the village of Dolnaya Svisloch, Grodno district, Grodno province (now the village of Svisloch, Grodno district, Grodno region ). He studied at the Svisloch school, then at the Novo-Vileika seminary. In 1918, he left Belarus and settled in Samara , where he published poems [3] , then moved to Moscow and entered the Higher Literary and Art Institute named after V. Bryusov . After graduating, he got a job at the Moscow State Publishing House [2] .
It was printed in periodicals of Moscow and Leningrad. One of the first to start translating Belarusian literature into Russian. In 1929–1935, in his translation, Russian editions of stories, short stories and the novel “ Yazep Krushinsky ” by Zmitrok Byaduli , the stories by Yakub Kolas “Out of the depths of Polesye”, a storybook “At the Break” by Yanki Nemansky , the novel “Interlord on the Mezhs” and the novel “Through the years” by Platon Golovach , poems of Belarusian poets. In addition to poetry and translations, Yakovchik was engaged in literary criticism, publishing articles under the pseudonym K. Kundish [2] .
At the beginning of World War II, Clement Yakovchiy enlisted in the guard and was called up to the Red Army on July 31, 1941. He participated in the defense of Moscow, and last contacted his relatives on August 23, 1941. It is considered missing since December 1941 [1] , presumably died in November [2] .
Memory
The name of Kliment Yakovchik is placed on a plaque in the Moscow House of Writers [2] .
