Representative of the musical dynasty, brother of Leopold and Eduard Moritz , father of Eduard and Wilhelm Gantsev. He studied music with his father, violinist and conductor of the Ducal Summer Orchestra in Wiesbaden. Then he studied under the leadership of Johann Sebastian Holbusch.
Since 1819, he conducted at the Mainz City Theater. In 1825, Mr .. took over the post of bandmaster of the Grand Duke of Hesse , where he remained until 1845. In the season 1846-1847. conducted in Nuremberg , the next season in Koblenz . Then he settled in London, initially as the head of the German opera company, then for some time was choirmaster of Her Majesty's Theater .
